Beam Park Public Hearing
In their role of making strategic planning decisions, the Mayor may occasionally take over an application, therefore becoming the local planning authority. They must then hold a public hearing before deciding whether or not to grant planning permission.
In this instance, the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, took over the application for the redevelopment of Beam Park.
Background to the public hearing
This scheme straddles the boundaries of two boroughs; Barking & Dagenham & Havering.
On 27 April 2018 the Mayor was notified that whilst Barking & Dagenham resolved to grant planning permission for the application within its administrative boundary, Havering resolved to refuse permission.
On 8 May 2018, having considered a report on the case, the Deputy Mayor notified Barking & Dagenham & Havering that he would act as the local planning authority for the purposes of determining the planning applications (under article 7 of the Mayor of London Order and the powers conferred by Section 2A of the 1990 Town and Country Planning Act).
The Barking & Dagenham reference for this case is 17/01307/OUT. The Havering reference for this case is P1242.17. The GLA references for this case are 2933a & 2933b.
