Safer Neighbourhood Boards are in place in every London Borough, bringing police and communities together to decide local policing and crime priorities, solve problems collaboratively and make sure that the public are involved in a wide range of other community safety decisions.

The Safer Neighbourhood Boards  priorities and core functions are:

  • To enable local engagement with the Police;
  • To enable local accountability of the police;
  • To focus on the Police and Crime Plan key principles and priorities
  • To monitor crime performance and public perceptions
  • To inform the development of policing priorities in the borough;
  • To monitor  the Metropolitan Police Service support for the delivery of ward panels and community contact sessions;
  • To engage with the  Borough Independent Advisory Groups and other local mechanisms (e.g. neighbourhood watch and stop and search community monitoring groups) to support and inform their work across the borough.

MOPAC has made £700k available each year for Safer Neighbourhood Boards to bid for, to fund projects in their borough that will help cut neighbourhood crimes and boost public confidence. Safer Neighbourhood Boards have delivered approximately 100 projects a year across London since their introduction in 2012.
