London and Resilience
This consultation is now closed.
Resilience is a part of London’s identity. We have always been successful in attracting people and business, creating innovation, generating wealth and building new generations of diverse globally-aware communities. London has adapted to change and dealt with major challenges throughout its history, but the 21st century brings new risks, with more complex and unpredictable consequences.
Our work on urban resilience aims to strengthen London’s residents, communities, businesses, institutions and systems to better withstand both acute shocks and long-term chronic stresses. We have recently started working on a Resilience Strategy for London, in partnership with the 100 Resilient Cities network.
The Preliminary Resilience Assessment (PRA)
The work so far has focused on understanding London’s strengths and the key shocks and stresses that could affect the city. We have developed three strands of work – focusing on People, Places and Process – to be developed into concrete actions over the coming months.
We have produced a Preliminary Resilience Assessment report. The PRA provides overall context and outlines a direction of travel for the work to develop a Resilience Strategy for London. It identifies a set of resilience challenges for London, together with several themes that we believe should be explored further.
We expect to publish the London Resilience Strategy in the first quarter of 2020.
Consultation survey
We conducted a public consultation process on the PRA in late 2019 asking for feedback and ideas from stakeholder organisations with an interest in urban resilience, through the consultation survey.
The feedback received will be considered and used to inform the London Resilience Strategy.
