Expert working groups
Expert working groups are thematic boards which allow members to share expertise, monitor relevant issues, and support the development of targeted products. They consist of subject matter experts from CTPN cities, academic partners and specialist organisations. CTPN has four active expert working groups.
The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive (CBRNE) expert working group monitors and briefs on the CBRNE threat and associated trends and implications for authorities in terms of prevention, planning, and response; shares initiatives, guidance, and events that may be of interest to CTPN members; and exchanges tactical and operational expertise. It is chaired by Superintendent Lee Kendrick, Head of the National CBRNE Centre at UK Counter Terrorism Policing.
The Humanitarian Assistance and Psychosocial Support (HAPSS) expert working group informs, advises, and supports the CTPN membership on issues and developments related to HAPSS. This is with a view to enhancing awareness and understanding of the psychosocial impacts of terrorism, and promoting the proactive integration of best practices in city HAPSS arrangements across all phases of emergency management. It is chaired by Jelena Watkins, Psychotherapist and Support Officer at Disaster Action.
The Major Events and Protective Security (MEPS) expert working group understands, engages with, and shares protective security practices for major events, large gatherings, and urban spaces. The group takes a cross-sector approach towards understanding the associated threats and monitoring/briefing on major events internationally, specifically across the CTPN. It is chaired by Neil Evans, Corporate Head of Security, at the City of London Corporation.
