What’s on?
19 October: The World Para Taekwondo Championships makes its UK debut ahead of its Paralympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Britain's top Paralympic star, Amy Truesdale, will take on the world's best as she battles for ranking points towards her first Paralympic Games. There’ll also be a host of fresh talent from the 2016 Fighting Chance initiative – including newcomers Lief Thobroe, Matt Bush and Joseph Lane.
Paralympic (combat) style Taekwondo is like the Olympic discipline where athletes wear protective jackets and headgear. Events will take place all day, across three competition areas for athletes with upper limb deficiency. Another two competition areas will feature Poomse categories. This is a non-contact form for athletes with a wider range of impairment.
Session times
20 - 22 October: The World Taekwondo Grand Prix will bring leading Olympians together to compete for valuable ranking points in the run up to Tokyo 2020. Big names to watch out for include Olympic medalists Jade Jones, Bianca Walkden and Lutalo Muhammad.
The world's top 250 Olympic level athletes in eight different weight categories will compete on three competition areas, over three days. They will wear the electronic body and head protector scoring system familiar from Olympic competition. Qualifying rounds take place in the morning and afternoon sessions, with a pre-show and finals on the evening of each day.
