Winterbourne Junior Girls' School 2019/20

'Aspirations, Expectations, No Excuses'

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Keep meeting the aspirational progress and standards targets set. To communicate clearly with parents, keeping them abreast of their daughter's progress. To keep all staff engaged in CPD.

What actions did you take?

  • A united staff: Focused on children within a framework of high expectations and quality first EAL teaching.
  • Encouraged children to become independent learners
  • Introduced GRIT
  • Careful monitoring and analysis of academic, social and personal progress
  • Swift and early intervention
  • Ensured that progress was consistent across the school

We have developed, updated and held steadfast to 4 key policies:

  • Teaching and Learning
  • Behaviour
  • Safeguarding
  • Performance Management

We did this by creating an effective learning culture in school; improving the quality of teaching and the quality of learning, which in turn raised standards.

Staying true to our ethos of 'Aspirations, Expectations, No Excuses' for all of our stakeholders

What were the outcomes?

Increasing year on year progress scores

  • Writing +8.4
  • Maths +3.8
  • Reading +2.8
  • Staff retention high
