Willow Brook Primary 2018/19
Embedding Proud Traditions, Widening Horizons, Enabling High Achievement
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
In 2014, Willow Brook Primary was judged to be in Special Measures for the second time in four years. The school’s culture was failing pupils, staff and the wider community.
What actions did you take?
*Rigorous school improvement processes, at the same time as embedding a nurturing and highly aspirational culture.
This was seen in the environment and heard in the language of learning. Pupils’ self-confidence and attitude to education was dramatically changed for the better.
*Rigorous evaluations schedules, forensic data analysis, a caring and challenging culture and exceptional CPD meant teachers were enabled to swiftly raise pupil outcomes to at least Age Related, and soon better.
*Leadership at all levels was carefully nurtured and the Arts became a core aspect of the school’s offer to pupils and the wider community. All staff were trained in Philosophy for Children (P4C). The Lead teacher ensured this was timetabled, becoming a key curriculum area.
What were the outcomes?
In 2017, KS2 progress was Well Above Average in Writing (3.0) and Maths (4.4), and Above Average in Reading (3.2).
