Closing the gap by knowing our students
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
In 2015 the difference in outcomes for pupil premium students was too large. Forensic data analysis, coupled with our usual self-evaluation tools (lesson observations etc..) helped analyse the issue.
What actions did you take?
-A whole school approach, combined with targeted, individual support.
-All members of staff were given additional training, including heightening the awareness of who our disadvantaged students are, with appropriate tracking measures in place. -At the same time we used interventions such as additional classes, breakfast clubs and weekend revision sessions to tackle the potential underachievement of pupil premium students, and also to boost confidence.
What were the outcomes?
Disadvantaged students outperformed their non-disadvantaged peers nationally on all progress measures: e.g. P8 score of +0.18
