Walthamstow School for Girls

Ensuring that our motto is consistently applied to all groups

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Despite being consistently amongst the highest performing state schools in the country, ensuring that our most deprived children do as well as their peers is a constant challenge.

What actions did you take?

We undertook a systematic programme of targeted interventions within the context of our 'motto'. This has resulted in outcomes which have placed us, over a number of years, as amongst the best nationally within the context of similar schools. As the lead school in Waltham Forest Challenge’s More Able Hub, we widened the focus and have undertaken a yearlong borough-wide piece of research on best practice and transformative work with this group, with a particular focus on the most able PP students.

What were the outcomes?

All secondary schools in Waltham Forest are now judged Ofsted 'good'.

We are currently collating the results of our research.
