Vicarage Primary School 2018/19
Raising the attainment of mid-phase admission pupils with EAL
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
During the academic year of 2017-2018, there were a total of 75 mid phase admissions across the school, majority new to, or with little English.
What actions did you take?
Upon admission, all new pupils with no English or little English are enrolled on to the Kick-start programme to support them with their acquisition of the English language. Phase leaders and class teachers use teacher assessments to identify the gaps and plan intervention groups to close the gaps.
When planning, teachers use the EAL planning key to ensure the correct strategies are used to support pupils, such as visuals.
Displays are multi-lingual to ease the EAL pupils in to the lesson.
What were the outcomes?
GLD Early Years is 75%,
Phonics Year 1 is 96%
KS1 data is 82% combined
KS2 data is 85% combined
