Trinity Primary Academy 2018/19

High expectations, no excuses culture and quality first teaching.

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

*Legacy of poor teaching under predecessor school.

*New admissions had little or no English and many had no prior experience of schooling.

*Low levels of parental engagement.

What actions did you take?

Setting of non-negotiables for teaching and learning to ensure consistency. Rigorous weekly monitoring of standards and constructive feedback provided to staff.

Bespoke professional development for all staff.

Development of oracy rich curriculum.

Pupil buddy system: pupils are paired with an excellent role model of language in the classroom, where possible they share the same home language.

Development of visual and engaging scaffolds to enable all pupils to access the learning in the classroom.

Half termly Parents as Partners sessions: parents are invited in to class to experience and participate in a lesson.

Weekly English lessons for parents.

Refining the information that parents receive about their child's learning; for example, the development of half termly, parent-friendly report cards.

What were the outcomes?

Our low prior attaining pupils made outstanding progress.
