Teachers as Learners - Learners as Teachers

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Through conversation and discussion with the community, staff and children, we identified that we lacked coherent subject specific pedagogy and had an outdated curriculum

What actions did you take?

Collaboratively constructed a pedagogical core and rewrote our curriculum as a community. This involved informal and formal conversations and data collection with all stakeholders in order to identify the kind of young people we wanted to help uncover - both now and in their future. We also began working with a curriculum consultant to create an inclusive, global and multi-ethnic curriculum, reflective of the modern world. We used research to design a pedagogical core, with teachers having a direct influence in the delivery of this through learning and lesson study.

What were the outcomes?

Coherent, incredible teaching in every area of the school. All pupil groups outperforming the national picture consistently.
