Three Bridges Primary School
Disadvantage is not Destiny
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Through research and reflection, we recognised as a school that our own structures and systems created a culture of low expectations and poor pedagogy.
What actions did you take?
-We identified the pedagogy in our school that was highly effective and reflected in the literature.
-We trialled new approaches to learning and teaching, bridging the gap between our successful practice and those areas identified as needing improvement.
-We invested heavily in Lesson Study and professional development, simultaneously raising the expectations of all staff of every child.
-We agreed whole school approaches to learning through Talk 4 Writing, Singapore Maths and Sounds-Write phonics, relieving the burden of subject expertise from teachers so that they could focus their time on learners and learning.
-We removed stifling admin, planning proformas and in-depth marking, so that teachers could spend time thinking about how to create a world-class learning experience for every child.
What were the outcomes?
Progress measures in the top 3% of the country and attainment figures over 20% above national in all areas.
