Stanburn Primary School 2020/21
An inclusive culture of high expectations and learning without limits.
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Children had a very wide range of abilities and experiences with a significant proportion of challenged and vulnerable families - recent arrivals, new to English, family breakdown, illness and bereavement.
What actions did you take?
'Believe Achieve Succeed - Learning without Limits' is at the heart of everything - self belief and the development of growth mindset are key. Pupil mental health and wellbeing are central - pupil aspirational leadership and counselling opportunities enable pupils to build self-esteem and thrive. The curriculum is broad and diverse, enhanced by visits, with the study of rich texts with strong identifiable characters at its centre. In depth study enables pupils to speak articulately and write confidently. Ongoing assessments and observations enable timely interventions to narrow gaps and address misconceptions. Lessons include regular reviews, revisits, no stakes testing, arithmetic daily 'fast five'. Bespoke parental sessions ensure support at home. Success is celebrated, as is resilience, perseverance and effort.
What were the outcomes?
Continued excellent outcomes at expected, greater depth attainment and progress. Pupils excited by learning, love school, embrace challenge.
