Encouraging students to embrace ‘serving God and striving for excellence’

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

• Students with prior attainment below that of their peers

• Interviews were used early in year 11 to assess learning needs and issues

What actions did you take?

• Treated each student as an individual able to achieve, and ensured an appropriate curriculum

• Developed good study habits through outside speakers and inhouse staff

• Additional support provided by dedicated SEND & EAL team

• Structured 12 week revision plans for all subjects following mock exams

• Used tutor times to develop independent learning skills

• Produced a programme of targeted interventions at key points in the year

• Regular assessment and monitoring cycles to look at both learning attitudes and progress

• Individual academic interviews and targets set twice a year

• Offered pastoral support to those who needed it

• Engaged and supported parents/carers through information evenings

• Offered intensive support to build the confidence of the learners

What were the outcomes?

• Our low prior attaining pupils made outstanding academic progress.
