St Patrick's Catholic Primary School

Increasing attainment and progress of pupils with EAL and SEND

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Assessment outcomes showed that large numbers of pupils were failing to reach the expected standards in reading and mathematics by the end of KS2.

What actions did you take?

The following has been put in place:

- Improvements to the curriculum provision

- Wide range of pupil achievement awards

- Teacher coaching

- Termly progress meetings with SLT and parents focusing on children's progress

- Funding an enrichment offer for the disadvantaged pupils including music tuition, trips, homework and sports clubs

- Targeted support for SEN pupils including personalised support plans, play therapy, speech and language therapy and emotional support programme

What were the outcomes?

By the end of KS2, the school’s results put us in the top 5% of schools nationally in Reading, Writing and Mathematics by both attainment and progress.
