Unrelenting focus on high expectations

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

  • Parental engagement - non attendance at parent meetings, inability to support with home learning.
  • Social media - children exhibiting self harm, children distressed by online bullying.

What actions did you take?

  • Supporting parents through termly 30 minute structured conversations. These meetings assisted in breaking down barriers between home and school. Time was provided for parents to share concerns they may have about their child and support needed.
  • Thematic workshops to support parents with their child's learning.
  • Class Dojo (communication App) ensured parents and teachers were in immediate contact.
  • Therapeutic counselling through Place2Be for both children and parents.
  • Raising awareness of the impact of social media on the well being of children.

What were the outcomes?

Accelerated progress realised average progress scores in Reading - 7.91 and Maths - 9.31
