Shapla Primary School 2018/19
Broad and balanced teaching across all subjects
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
High numbers of EAL and FSM pupils, often living in overcrowded housing.
What actions did you take?
We taught all children the appropriate skills for learning and instilled confidence to fight against adversity
We ensured:
- Quality first teaching across the school by committed and dedicated qualified practitioners
- Support groups and intervention programmes that accelerated pupils’ learning from Nursery to year 6
- Pupils were given the opportunity to learn through different methods to support language acquisition
- Poverty was not considered a barrier to learning
- Provided a rich and varied curriculum working with many professional organisations to ensure that all children have access to the arts, music, sport and London’s cultural offer. We did this through visits to places of interest and museums to further enhance all of the children's learning and knowledge acquisition
