Salisbury Primary School 2020/21

Timely data analysis to identify specific children for effective support

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

High mobility throughout the school, culminating in a high proportion of mid phase admissions. Many mid phase admissions were new to English both children and parents.

What actions did you take?

  • We took a two pronged approach, where we provided EAL support to our newest arrivals in each year group and also provided free English classes to our parents.
  • We employed Academic Assistants to provide small intervention groups both during and after school, to narrow the gaps in the children's learning.
  • Base line assessments were carried out and tracking pupil progress over time enabled us to analyse and identify specific areas to be focused on.
  • Individual programmes were developed using smaller steps to success to build the children's self-confidence and independence as learners.

What were the outcomes?

Stronger home school partnerships, improved progress and attainment, writing and Maths well above average and Reading above average
