Rush Green Primary School
Prioritisation of need based on five point identification
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
-Low attendance (bottom 20th percentile)
-Persistent absence of key groups (cases of 60%)
-Low aspirations
-High EAL
-Low performing WBR,
-Low performing SEN
-Low prior attainers, high vulnerable pupils.
What actions did you take?
After identification of approximately 100 children that hit all key markers, the additional deployment of a parent support advisor and attendance officer helped to get children in to school. Systems of rewards were used and where necessary, fines. Meetings with parents and teachers were carried out and additional early morning one-to-one tutoring was conducted before school, with monthly assessment to identify gaps and next steps. Breakfasts were offered to these children to encourage them to come. In addition, groups of pupils were taken off timetable to work with our strongest English and mathematics teachers during afternoon catch up classes. Communication between class teachers, intervention staff and parents was key in the monitoring process.
What were the outcomes?
All pupils made significant and rapid progress. Our school was ranked within the top 5% of schools nationally for progress.
