Queen Elizabeth's Girls' School 2019/20

Scaffolding and challenge in the right mixture

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

The newly appointed Headteacher recognised good attainment of the majority (middle and high prior attaining pupils) was a challenge, since this overshadowed the unacceptable gap between advantaged and disadvantaged pupils.

What actions did you take?

Learning and teaching practice was improved through high quality CPD and in class coaching, so that there was planned differentiation to meet the needs of all learners. Pupils in vulnerable groups were identified and their progress was closely monitored from classroom teacher level. Standards were raised throughout the school with new systems to ensure consistency of practice and equity for all. Quality Assurance processes were introduced to monitor practice and intervene appropriately with good effect.

What were the outcomes?

  • 2017 : September : Progress 8 score 0.9
  • 2018 : September : Progress 8 score 1.0
