Park Primary School 2019/20
A values-driven institution which focuses on building children's confidence, creativity and their capacity
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
We have a transient population and often children arrive over the course of KS1. As such, often, they have not reached the level of language acquisition in Y2 that will allow them to be considered to be at a national standard.
What actions did you take?
Our strategy is to ensure that they are empowered to catch up quickly and thereafter to keep up. Our current low attaining pupils at KS1 are different and that is because we exist transiently. The skill therefore is to ensure that children are treated as individuals and always have realistic yet ambitious expectations placed upon them.
What were the outcomes?
Focusing on individual prior attainment and injecting ambition will ensure that children do not slip through the net and will mean that higher achievers are just as 'targeted' as those who have traditionally been subject to booster classes etc. As a result our progress data is very good and, at Park, that is what matters.
