Orchard Primary School

Accelerating progress for disadvantaged pupils

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Many disadvantaged pupils at our school start their education at a lower level of achievement in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and oracy than other pupils.

What actions did you take?

-A commitment to quality first teaching across the school including effective induction of new staff, NQTs and action research projects.

-A robust curriculum with a focus on many opportunities to enrich learning experiences through trips, visits and focus days / weeks.

-A rigorous assessment system with a focus on gap analysis to ensure pupils reach age expected attainment as well as provide opportunities for greater depth.

-A focus on SMSC and appropriate interventions to support social/emotional health and wellbeing, and recognising the importance of this on academic achievement and progress.

What were the outcomes?

Disadvantaged pupils (including the most able disadvantaged pupils) made very good progress across the school including KS2 outcomes.
