Raise achievement/ progress in Reading/Writing/Maths for all children
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Large number of vulnerable groups including Pupil Premium, white working-class boys, EAL and SEN. Historically low achieving, low aspirations, a lack of focus on learning and a lack of challenge.
What actions did you take?
• Half-termly Pupil Progress Meetings. Scrutinised data for every child in R/W/M – 3-year group teachers & SLT (HT, Deputy-Assessment, Deputy-Inclusion, ExHT)
• Identified gaps for interventions - R/W/M (Pupil Premium Funded). Reviewed weekly
• Focused arithmetic/mental strategies/ real life maths problems to support reasoning
• New school values developed resilience
• Booster classes before/after school
• Mentored individuals - behaviour/attitudes to learning/ writing/ reading (HT/ExHT)
• Shared constructive dialogue for work scrutiny/book monitoring (SLT/ teachers)
• Daily reading checks on home reading for year 6 (HT)
• Encouraged more challenging books and individual recommendations by key members of staff. This encouraged pupil buy in
• Aspirations Day. Range of jobs represented and showed links to R/W/M learning
What were the outcomes?
Developed more positive attitudes to learning, increased confidence, self-esteem and aspirations. Significant improvement in both progress and achievement
