Marlborough Primary School 2020/21

Establishing fully inclusive, quality first teaching supported by expert professionals

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Addressing the needs of vulnerable pupils to ensure their inclusion, promote their independence and secure positive outcomes for all. Monitoring found these children to be over reliant on adult support.

What actions did you take?

Relaunched the school's mission, values and rationale and secured a shared understanding of inclusive practice and commitment to engage, motivate, support and challenge all pupils.

Targeted the use of expert professionals e.g. Speech and Language Therapist and Specialist SEND teachers, and involved them in providing training and support which established inclusive learning environments and improved quality first teaching.

Provided intensive training for Learning Support Assistants and facilitated more flexibility in supporting vulnerable pupils and in delivering proven and targeted interventions.

Developed strategies, planning and resources across the curriculum in ways which best support the needs of our vulnerable pupils in accessing learning.

Engaged with parents to raise our collective expectations pupils with SEND.

What were the outcomes?

Increased rates of progress for vulnerable children e.g. those with EHC Plans achieved an average reading score of + 9.4.
