Heathland School 2020/21

Values-based, child-centred, learning focused school

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

The challenge of enabling our learners with a wide range of different starting points to engage with learning and be fully ready for their next stage in learning.

What actions did you take?

Firstly, we love the children and put them and their learning at the heart of everything. Secondly, we have created an active and exciting curriculum that ensures all pupils really enjoy the learning experience. The secret of our success within our distinctive agreed pedagogy is continuous, forensic assessment in flexible groups that informs pacey next steps teaching and learning, underpinned by strong values and positive feedback for all learners. We do not rely on schemes and programmes; instead through guided learning and cognitive approaches we teach each child what they need to learn next - every lesson, every day.

What were the outcomes?

Our expected standard outcomes at KS2 for 18-19 were:

  • 85% GPS,
  • 75% Reading
  • 85% Maths
  • 88% Writing
  • (RWM combined 72%)
