Heathland School
We use a next steps teaching approach
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
No problems, just lots of children with different starting points who need to quickly learn the next step as fast as possible. This required love to be shown and hard work!
What actions did you take?
Our strategies include:
- Forensic assessment for learning, feedback and dialogue about learning
- Intensive next step teaching for each child at the edge of their learning
- Highly effective interventions to close gaps in learning
- Positive relationships built on values-based education
- Growth mindset by all – “We can” attitude
- Being a Level 2 UNICEF Rights Respecting School
- A rich, experiential curriculum from EYFS to KS2 based on active learning
- Great relationships with families
What were the outcomes?
- Outstanding Attainment and progress for pupils from all groups
- Lovely relationships
- Climate for learning
- Outstanding twice in OFSTED
