Supporting high quality first teaching through action based research
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
High levels of children new to the country with limited English - sometimes masking complex SEND and communication needs. This was coupled with high levels of school instability.
What actions did you take?
- The SLT established a rigorous and robust system for the monitoring of teaching and learning with continuous professional dialogue
- We developed our curriculum to provide all children with a wide range of opportunities that keenly focus on the holistic development of the child
- SLT developed personalised professional development programmes informed by monitoring
- Where areas for improvement were identified, leaders established a clear rationale for action which informs next steps based on evidence informed research
- The mental health and emotional welfare of children was viewed as a high priority
- The school worked in partnership with a range of therapeutic services to support to children, families and staff meet identified needs e.g. the Daily Mile for all pupils and Place2Talk and Nurture Provision
What were the outcomes?
2017 KS2 progress results: reading- 0.7, writing - 2.1 maths -3.2.
