Gunnersbury Catholic School

Supporting disadvantaged pupils access the curriculum

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Students were not achieving as well as other students. This was for a plethora of reasons including their access to ICT, library resources and support networks.

What actions did you take?

Support has come from working closely with Head of Year and classroom teachers. Students were given access to homework clubs, morning support sessions and small group academic support. They received extra resources from each department to assist their learning outside of the classroom these were both in the form of booklets and online learning platforms. Students were given extra teacher time within the school day to support them in areas of difficulty and were in intervention groups at school.

What were the outcomes?

Pupils achieved fantastic sets of results with great achievement for these disadvantage students. They matched the results of their peers in all subjects and achieved well beyond the national averages. They were therefore enabled to continue in education and get places on the courses they wished to do at school or college. They achieved across the curriculum subjects they had studied at GCSE.
