Diminishing gaps in Year 6 through quality first teaching.
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Teachers identified key groups of children who were not achieving as high as their peers. This was also the highest year group with pupil premium pupils, from disadvantaged background.
What actions did you take?
- We used the pupil premium funding to target specific children according to their needs and gaps in learning with an additional teacher for Reading, Writing and Maths.
- Teachers led booster groups before and after school which were based on summative assessments and data.
- The Writing Leader delivered weekly editing workshop for identified pupils.
- We invited John Murray to lead a CPD session for all staff, so that reading is taught with a skills based approach.
- The LSAs worked closely with teachers to ensure children with EHCP diminished the gaps. LSAs were accountable to class teacher.
What were the outcomes?
- Reading 81% ( 13% + National)
- Writing 86% (9%+ National)
- Maths 90%
- Combined 76% (15% + National)
