What actions did you take?

At Elmgrove we want children to acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of maths which will enable them to move on to more advanced material. We have embraced the Mastery approach across the school and planning ensures that children develop factual, procedural and conceptual fluency of maths. Lessons are highly differentiated, with children working in their own classes and having the autonomy to choose their level of challenge. Mastery activities that require problem solving, reasoning and deeper thinking are used regularly, and manipulatives are made available in each class and encouraged. We promote outside learning, active maths, reasoning, problem solving and games which makes maths challenging, engaging and fun. Regular parental workshops support this learning.
