Drew Primary School 2019/20
No excuses with individual targeted teaching
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
High deprivation indicators and lack of aspiration means that we take full responsibility for educating with no excuses. Robust discussions about individual pupils with all members of staff.
What actions did you take?
Specialist teachers employed to deliver wider curriculum and support with increased cultural capital. All group boosters ceased and were replaced with individual targeted teaching. Feedback for progress replaced traditional marking to ensure gaps and misunderstandings are immediately addressed. Continued focus on ’quality first teaching’. Incremental coaching for all teaching staff members to ensure teaching continually improves. Learning behaviours embedded and consistent throughout the school to ensure maximised learning. Every minute is learning time with embedded school routines. Specialist teaching and supports for SEND and SEMH. Robust systems to support every individual child.
What were the outcomes?
Overall progress for disadvantaged pupils: Reading: 2.98, Writing: 2.91, Maths: 4.19
