Maximising achievement through nurturing and personalised learning
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
- No previous schooling and low starting points;
- Deprived families, some with no recourse to public funds;
- High mobility because of temporary accommodation;
- Family networks abroad affect attendance.
What actions did you take?
- Developing the whole child through a nurturing ethos –the school has put in place a range of pastoral initiatives to develop confidence, motivation and independence.
- Creating an environment of high expectation – we embed high aspirations in our pupils to improve their life chances.
- Robust assessment and rigorous pupil tracking – the assessment coordinator works closely with the leadership team to ensure that no child is left behind.
- Ensuring quality first teaching through bespoke teacher mentoring and coaching – the established leaders ensure every pupil has access to quality first teaching.
- Implementing effective, research-based interventions to accelerate learning – a range of established, successful interventions is used strategically to address the needs of different pupils.
What were the outcomes?
- Combined: 29% National: 7%
- Reading: Progress +4.40 National -0.29
- Writing: progress +3.56 National -0.40
