Downderry Primary School
Improving outcomes for all pupils
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Children start school with attainment well below what is typical for children of the same age. Accelerated progress is needed to close the gap so that pupils are secondary ready.
What actions did you take?
- Stakeholders are empowered through contributing to the SDP process, and regular parent workshops support parents.
- Personalised CPD for all staff and termly Professional Development weeks share best practice.
- Regular book scrutinies, learning walks and pupil progress meetings hold all staff to account, ensuring that staff know their children pastorally and academically.
- Effective use of the pupil progress tracker informs next steps for teaching and learning, and Provision Mapping ensures timely and effective support, including specialists- CAMHS, Speech and Language.
- Booster classes and Easter School for English and Maths in KS1 and 2 have a positive impact on achievement.
- Effective use of new technology engages, enriches and motivates pupils, helping them to develop skills and learn exceptionally well across the curriculum.
What were the outcomes?
Attainment and progress by the end of KS2 is well above the national average.
