Crofton Junior School 2018/19
Develop positive attitudes and a growth mindset for all children
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
The attitude and behaviour of the lower achieving children was having an impact on standards.
What actions did you take?
- Provided an inspirational mentor to develop a positive relationship and instil a growth mindset approach, that supported learning
- Supported them in small groups led by a teacher, until they were confident and achieved well enough to return to class
- Implemented a Singapore style intervention approach so that gaps in learning were filled quickly
- Implemented a split input teaching approach in class, which supported faster progress
- Introduced a range of therapies to support attitude and concentration
- Reviewed the behaviour policy to ensure clear positive reinforcement for children
- 1:1 reading sessions with TAs on a daily basis
- Having a link between TAs and Play leaders, so that the growth mindset approach can be reinforced on the playground
What were the outcomes?
Lower achieving children made significant progress and the majority reached the expected level.
