What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
- Low attainment on entry
- Many pupils new to English
- High percentage of new arrivals with unidentified special educational needs
What actions did you take?
- Assessment on entry.
- Early identification of SEND
- SEND focus for CPD
- Expert team focused on supporting pupils new to English.
- Whole school focus on writing - audit of need; scrutiny of work; targeted CPD; close monitoring and evaluation of the teaching and learning of writing.
- Developing a love of reading throughout the school through CPD; introduction of Reciprocal Reading; increased focused on guided reading; and improving core books.
What were the outcomes?
Improved reading and improved writing; EAL pupils catching up with their peers; pupils with SEND achieving their targets.
