Cleves Primary School 2018/19

Diminishing the Differences - Achievement for All

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Cleves Primary has 94% of its pupils from ethnic minority backgrounds. Our disadvantaged pupils did less well and we needed to develop a curriculum that engaged all learners.

What actions did you take?

The curriculum has been developed with specialist provision for Music, Sports, MFL (including Mandarin) and home learning links. Teachers set homework daily and provided support after/before school.

Home learning was encouraged throughout the year by termly Science fairs, International evenings, specialised festival inter-school competitions and Shakespeare week. We also held weekly coffee mornings for parents and Free English language classes.

Additional elements included:

  • After school/lunchtime clubs An Into-University- programme of mentors, following children from primary school into university
  • Every child a Musician
  • Theatre groups
  • Science fairs
  • Virtual Learning Environments- Bug club, My Maths, Make waves- Blogging
  • Secondary school partnerships
  • A full time Sports coach
  • Residential trips for Years 3,4,5 and 6

What were the outcomes?

Outcomes of disadvantaged pupils improved. Over 90% of Pupil Premium children reached the expected standard, 30% are working at Greater Depth.
