Cleveland Road Primary School 2019/20

Enthusing learners and raising aspirations through the provision of an innovative curriculum

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Serving a community in an area with high levels of deprivation, pupils have historically had limited access to the rich tapestry of opportunities available beyond the immediate locality.

What actions did you take?

  • Placement of carefully chosen texts at the heart of the curriculum
  • Development of aspirational, authentic and meaningful learning journeys
  • Increased opportunities for pupils to work with arts organisations of national significance such as the National Gallery, BBC Proms, London Symphony Orchestra
  • Increased engagement of families and promotion of events locally and beyond
  • CPD programme to improve staff subject knowledge in all subjects
  • Increased opportunities for pupils to take ownership of their learning and to steer the direction of authentic cross-curricular projects
  • Support of middle leaders and curriculum experts to develop teacher subject knowledge and confidence
  • Sharing of experience with other schools, locally and nationally
  • Artsmark commitment to ensure creativity and innovation

What were the outcomes?

  • 79% achieved expected standard in all areas (14% above national)
  • Writing: 94%
  • Maths: 98% with 42% achieving greater depth
