Cleveland Road Primary School 2018/19
Accelerating Progress
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Although our prior lower and middle attaining pupils were making good progress, we realised that they needed to make accelerated progress to meet age-related expectations or greater depth.
What actions did you take?
• Teacher modelling – unpicking questions and developing answers
• Reading and Maths interventions with teachers and LSAs
• Focus on new words for children to build on their English vocabulary
• Focus in Comprehension (making a point and explaining using evidence from the text)
• Focus in Guided Reading (justifying responses)
• Teachers gave children time to respond to marking
• Focus on applying grammatical techniques and punctuation in English
• Provided opportunities for writing to be edited, improved and redrafted
• Writing as a Reader – to give purpose
What were the outcomes?
66% achieved expected standard in all areas (5% above National) including 88% in Maths, with 52% achieving greater depth
