Chobham Academy

Inclusive curriculum, with intensive bespoke intervention programmes

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

-Students entering with incorrect SEN profiles, identified through baseline assessments and observations.

-High number of disadvantaged students with low literacy levels, as identified through baseline assessments and reading age tests.

What actions did you take?

All students sat Lucid screening tests so that their SEN profile needs were identified; this was then matched with the relevant intervention (e.g. TA support/ SALT; sensory room provision).

KS1/2/3 students with low literacy levels followed the most appropriate phonics course (Soundswrite/ ReadWriteinc) and a peer reading programme was used. KS3 students were dis-applied from MFL until literacy levels were at the national average.

What were the outcomes?

All external exam outcomes above national expectations; PP outperformed NPP at KS4.
