Chase Bridge Primary School 2019/20
Well focused support; good use of data; parental engagement
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Historically the rate of progress across KS2 was too slow. We also needed to target those children making insufficient progress faster and put in place more effective programmes of support.
What actions did you take?
- Programmes targeted for pupils making slower progress out of hours (before school).
- Disadvantaged children accessing a breakfast club in the morning where they also receive help with homework as well as online practice of basic skills.
- Improving the subject knowledge level of staff administering intervention programmes to meet the rising challenge of the KS2 curriculum.
- More flexible use of teaching assistant staffing to ensure that teachers were also working with pupils with high level of needs.
- Maintaining a good breadth and balance to the curriculum that engages children (and staff!) and increasingly planning cross-curricular opportunities that link to reading, writing and maths in the foundation subjects.
What were the outcomes?
Attainment and progress at least in line or significantly better than similar pupils for past three years in all subjects.
