Burnt Ash Primary School

Achievement for All - Narrowing the gap for all pupils

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Initially we had issues regarding low expectations and poor engagement from both pupils and their families.

What actions did you take?

We have established a clear shared vision, which staff, pupils and parents buy into. This model has the 'Burnt Ash Learner' at its heart and clearly identifies the characteristics that our children must develop to be successful. The vision drives a bespoke curriculum and all school development work. Teachers are given 'permission' to be creative, whilst remaining focussed on the needs of the learner.

The learning spaces and ethos have been challenged and developed, to increase independence and more creative use of resources and teaching time. Staff have a personalised approach to supporting and engaging pupils, taking into account individual barriers and providing strategies for all.

What were the outcomes?

Enthusiastic teachers have autonomy to plan for the needs of their children. Pupils are engaged in their learning.
