Closing the Achievement Gap for our Disadvantaged Pupils
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Disadvantaged children were making less progress than their non- disadvantaged peers. These children were closely monitored week by week.
What actions did you take?
From 2014 children in Year 5 and Year 6 have been streamed by their writing data i.e.1 Below Age Related, 1 Age-related and 1 Above Age- related class. This has allowed class teachers to focus closely on the gaps in their class's learning. Alongside this, the disadvantaged pupils and Special Needs pupils have received daily small group interventions from our 'central team' of outstanding practitioners, in addition to quality first teaching from their class teachers. The progress of these children has been accelerated by this relentless focus during their time in Year 5 and 6.
What were the outcomes?
Our progress for disadvantaged pupils in writing in 2016 was in the top 3% nationally and top 2% nationally for maths.
