Becontree Primary School
Raising achievement through a culture of nurture and support.
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Year on year, children start school with attainment below that which is typical for children of the same age, particularly in relation to their language and communication skills.
What actions did you take?
A strategic approach to ensuring consistently high expectations was the key to success. This was underpinned by a safe, supportive and nurturing school ethos and the planning of a broad, balanced and creative curriculum. The refinement of this broad and balanced curriculum has led to high levels of pupil engagement and a love of learning. Effective use of Pupil Premium Funding and the development of robust assessment systems has helped to ensure that targeted teaching and learning meets the needs of all pupils. Training and support for all staff has enabled them to effectively fulfil the expectations of them, and led to improved outcomes over time; success bred success.
What were the outcomes?
Improved outcomes at the end of each key stage, with attainment at key stage 1 and 2 above national.
