
Get an award: Schools
All schools in London can take part in the programme by registering online. Once you have registered you can progress through the awards with the support of your borough lead, who are responsible for leading the programme locally across each borough.
While schools achieve and renew one Bronze Award, they can go on to achieve multiple Silver and Gold Awards, marking their continued commitment to supporting and improving children’s health and wellbeing.
Achieving an award can help you:
- identify your own best practice.
- focus on areas to develop in health, wellbeing and education.
- work with services and the local community to support families.
Once your award has been approved, you will receive a dated certificate and digital award logo that can be displayed to celebrate your achievement with staff, children, parents, and the wider community.

The Bronze Award acknowledges and celebrates that a school has established a high-quality, whole-school approach to health and wellbeing that is embedded for all children. This award forms the foundation of the HSL programme, covering the key themes of health and wellbeing and underpinning any future Silver or Gold Award achievements.
To achieve a Bronze Award, you should:
- Be registered online.
- Complete the Bronze Award tool for schools and upload it to the website for approval.
In the Bronze Award tool, you should:
- Record your current practice.
- Provide evidence to show all criteria is met.
- Provide links to policies and documents where requested.
- To ensure this foundation remains relevant and reflective of current practice, the Bronze Award should be renewed every three years.
To renew your Bronze Award, you should:
- Review your practice and update any changes on the tool.
- Reflect on your progress, priorities and next steps for health and wellbeing.
- Upload your updated Bronze Award tool to the website for approval.

The Silver Award evidences that a school has identified a health and wellbeing priority and devised a new approach, project, practice, or intervention to target the priority. This award builds on the foundation of the Bronze Award, demonstrating how a school plans to develop their approach further.
To achieve a Silver Award, you should:
- Hold an in-date HSL Bronze Award.
- Complete the Silver Award tool and upload it to the website for approval.
In the Silver Award tool, you should:
- Identify the health and wellbeing issues affecting children in the school (needs analysis).
- Use the information gathered (needs analysis) to identify and define group/s and number of children e.g. whole school (universal) or targeted group of children.
- Develop a project with planned measurable outcomes and an action plan to achieve these outcomes
- Show how it will monitor and evaluate the project to measure success and demonstrate improvements.

The Gold Award recognises that school has evaluated the impact and sustained the outcomes of the new approach, project, practice or intervention in the Silver Award tool. This award celebrates schools that have built on the good practice evidenced in their Bronze Award and taken clear, purposeful action to improve outcomes for their children.
To achieve the Gold Award, you should:
- Hold an in-date HSL Bronze Award.
- Have achieved the HSL Silver Award.
- Complete the Gold Award tool and upload it to the website for approval.
In the Gold Award tool, you should:
- Record results and outcomes.
- Reflect on approach taken.
- Provide analysis of results and share impact.
- Explain how activity is being sustained.
- Once a Gold Award is achieved, settings can apply for new Silver and Gold Award in a different health and wellbeing priority or revisit the same priority but focus on a new aspect or approach.
