Building capacity of year 5 and year 6 teachers to prepare pupils for high level academic achievement at KS2.
Master Classes
The project ran in partnership with St Paul’s Way Trust Secondary School and local feeder primary schools. Through building teachers capacity with gifted pupils it aimed to provide strong foundations for accelerated progress in secondary school and beyond. English and maths master classes and a Latin foundation course were developed with primary school teachers in the People’s Palace Schools Network.
Teachers attended CPD seminars led by Maths and English Lead Practitioners to cultivate high level subject expertise. The Latin CPD programme built teacher confidence in teaching specific to Latin and highlighted areas of English grammar which teachers felt less confident with. This supported primary teachers of able students to lay the foundations for learning Latin and modern foreign languages to a high level from Yr7.
At project end nearly all pupils achieved Level 5 or 6 Maths and English. The Latin summer school was a well-attended, highly successful transition programme.
