Narrowing the gap in the teaching of literature between primary and secondary phases.
Literacy, Language & Communication
Focused on literature, this project supported schools in Southwark, Tower Hamlets and Bexley to improve teacher knowledge of subject specific teaching methods that support higher attainment at KS2. Teachers from primary schools were given training sessions and guidance to structure lesson plans to reduce the gap between KS2 and KS3 literacy levels.
Year 6 students from the primary schools involved were given KS3 work to stretch and challenge them. The project helped prepare students for the challenges of secondary school, and helped raise attainment at KS2.
The project surpassed our expectations. We have had great benefit from working alongside the lead school. The training that was provided allowed my staff to ask questions initially. However we found the most benefit from taking part in a peer observation
