Challenging and engaging more able mathematicians in lessons to improve progress and attainment.

Extending the Learning of More Able Pupils in Mathematics (EMAM)

The project developed teachers’ subject-specific pedagogy, knowledge and understanding of the Maths curriculum. It focused on strengthening understanding of maths for KS2 and KS3 pupils.

Based in Croydon the project reached 25 schools. Teachers were provided with quality practical resources, attended training days, and received 2 outreach support visits from leading practitioners. This allowed them to challenge and extend their more able mathematicians by giving pupils opportunities and support to deepen their mathematical knowledge, skills and confidence.

At project end, as well as the more able, all pupils had accelerated their progress and improved their mathematical attainment.

The project had a very positive impact on the maths within the school.
