Present Moment - Shakespeare & Beyond
Present Moment provided ‘rehearsal room’ method training to enable teachers to use a practical, visceral approach when introducing & teaching Shakespeare to students.
Shakespeare & Beyond
The project aimed to introduce robust teaching strategies and skills to participating teachers in the targeted schools, breaking down attitudinal barriers and helping to bring Shakespeare alive for students, by training teachers in professional theatre 'rehearsal room' techniques used by Present Moment's Artistic Director when working with actors, in order to produce high quality and accessible Shakespeare productions, and enable both students and teachers to overcome their perception of Shakespeare as difficult. The project was delivered to 13 teachers in 7 schools. Findings indicate that teachers' perception of self-efficacy improved. A network has been created by participating teachers to continue to share experience and learning.
Lessons are shared and used by all KS3 teachers in the department: even those who are nervous have used small strategies built into their lesson as a whole
Present Moment no longer exists as an organisation. However, the expertise and personnel involved in the delivery of Shakespeare & Beyond are still able to advise, and deliver workshops, on using the rehearsal room technique to approaching Shakespeare to both departmental staff and students.
