The Aspire Network
The Aspire Network aimed to enhance teacher practice and attainment of EAL pupils in the London Borough of Harrow and Barnet.
London Borough of Harrow (Aspire - Round 2)
The project aimed to raise the academic attainment in Maths and English of pupils who speak English as an additional language by training teachers specifically to support the learning needs of EAL pupils, and disseminating resources from the project to local schools.
The project was delivered to 62 teachers in 4 schools.
Findings demonstrated that participating pupils generally experienced higher levels of progress over the academic year compared to comparison groups and national expectations. In some cases the progress was almost twice that of the national level.
Teacher competency and confidence levels have also been enhanced, according to feedback from school managers.
